Meet Our Founders

Inspired by our own travel experience over many years, KiliGATE was co-founded in 2017 by Alexandra and Kerstin. We bring along a strong professional track record as well as a shared passion for outdoors, travel and social impact.

Together, we combine a wealth of experience and complementary skills. Driven by the same mission, we have joined our forces in order to enact transformative social impact and promote responsible tourism.

Title: Founder, CEO & Business Development
Country: Switzerland
Also lived in: Austria, Germany, Latvia, Netherlands, U.K., Hong Kong, Singapore, and Spain
Languages: English, German, Chinese, French, Spanish
Why KiliGATE:

Because I have seen too much injustice and feel compelled to make a difference. Because I have fallen in love with Africa and believe that responsible tourism is a powerful tool to promote sustainable local development. And because I believe that KiliGATE—in close collaboration with our local partners—is the most effective way for me to contribute and leave this world a better place.

Before KiliGATE:

I started my career in investment banking in London and Hong Kong;

climbed the corporate ladder to become Head of International Business Development for Deutsche Bank’s International Private & Business Clients division at the age of 30;

advised financial institutions with their corporate strategy as a Director in Mergers & Acquisitions;

climbed Kilimanjaro and authored the book Kilimanjaro Uncovered. An Alternative Path to Bliss—and that’s when everything changed . . .

Interesting facts:

I’ve cycled all the way through Africa, from Cairo to Cape Town. This has taught me—nothing is impossible.

Title: Co-Founder, COO
Country: Austria
Also lived in: United States (San Francisco Area, St.Louis & New York City), Hong Kong
Languages: English, German, basic Spanish
Why KiliGATE:

Travelling the world, especially through Africa and some parts of Asia, made me humble because I saw the social inequity that exists there first hand. With KiliGATE I am proud to be able to give back and co-found a platform that will create a true win-win situation for responsible tourism in Tanzania and hopefully soon more countries in Africa.

Before KiliGATE:

I have been working in various Director and Head-of roles for Software companies as well as in the BioTech industry for the past 8 years (Customer Success, Consulting, Digital/IT). I am always passionate about what I do; hence I won several awards for innovative projects and excellence in transporting company values and leading teams. With working for a mobile startup in NYC for 1.5 years I also bring Start-up experience to the KiliGATE team.

Interesting facts:

I have been travelling to 65 countries, which accounts for 1/3 of all countries globally. My goal is to explore 3 new countries every year.
